My First Mac
I was never really interested in the Mac until I saw Leopard in action. I just didn't really care for it's UI and ugly colors despite the fact that I loved the idea that applications are generall (though not always the case) are single, self-contained, portable app-like, packages that can be uninstalled by simply moving it to the Trash or pressing the delete key.
You also don't have a registry to worry about, but that doesn't necessarily make it better. But that's beside the point. It wasn't until the new Unibody, aluminum MacBooks that really got my head spinning about getting it; in short, it was the hardware that mostly did.
I say mostly because there was one other factor that also played a part; knowledge. At work, there are a couple of Mac users but there, they have to use a PC with Windows on it. At home, they use their Macs. So I thought, "...these people are actually learning to use both systems...". And me, being a geek, tech-lover, an enthusiast, etc., don't really know much about the side of Apple.
I also thought that this could make me more marketable as an IT Pro, lol. With those thoughts, I took the plunge and got a 13" MacBook; the one with the illuminated keyboard, 250GB HDD, and 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo CPU. The minute I saw this thing at the workplace (the 15" though), it was love at first byte. Ok, so I just wanted an excuse to say that but really, this thing is sexy and fast.
I used my Samsung SC-MX20 camcorder and my lovely wife to record the unboxing and initial setup for a memoir. I have posted those videos below. Unfortunately, somehow one clip was corrupted (which made iMovie 08 spazz--freeze) and you can only hear audio but no video so I opted to delete it. Hence, the reason why the unboxing will be...um...unfinished.
